Andrej Lomakin, Cellist

Andrej Lomakin was born 1973 in Kutaissi/Republic of Georgia. He took his first cello lessons at the age of 5. He debuted as a soloist with the Kutaissi Symphony Orchestra and Haydn's Cello Concerto in D Major in 1982. Three years later, his first evening of chamber music followed with sonatas by Bach and Beethoven.

In 1991, Andrej Lomakin participated in masterclasses with Natalia Gutman. He began his studies with Prof. Illarion Tcheishvili, student of Rostropowitsch, at the Tbilissi State Conservatory in the following year. In 1993, he was appointed principal cellist of the Tbilissi Symphony Orchestra under D. Kachidze as conductor.

In 1995, Lomakin went to Paris an continued his activities in concert and chamber music. He took private lessons with Natalia Gutman and Philipp Muller, later with Harvey Shapiro of New York Julliard School. After the turn of the millenium, Lomakin played regularly with the Camerata Rudolf Barshai in Basel/Switzerland. A concert tour with a recently founded trio led him to Germany, France, Belgium, Russia and Switzerland.

Lomakin appears as a solo cellist and chamber musician all over europe. He lives in Bochum.
